Darby & Evan live in San Francisco, but most of their family is thousands of miles away with Darby’s in Kansas and Evan’s in Australia, so a destination wedding in Hawaii was the perfect halfway point for everyone. ”We could have been anywhere with the same group of people and it would have been magnificent, we just happened to be on a beautiful island,” says Darby. The day started with a traditional Ketubah signing, both intimate and powerful, followed by an eclectic seaside ceremony with fuchsia, coral and peachy blooms. Their wedding was colorful and tropical with classic Hawaiian details.
Seeing the pride in both sets of parents’ faces throughout the whole day was probably the most memorable for me. It really hits home when you’re in the thick of the most meaningful moments of someone’s life, witnessing it, feeling it, and capturing it fills me up. For instance, Darby hugging her father-in-law post ceremony, or the sweet embrace of Darby and her flower girl niece strolling through cocktail hour (her niece took her flower girl duty very seriously!), or how about the most joyful hora I’ve probably ever witnessed and photographed. I’ll never forget the moment Evan’s father clutching his fists with excitement. Too good!
